Geneva, August 2025 — At Geneva Watch Days 2025, Jacob & Co. proudly unveils the Astronomia Solar Dragon, a sculptural tour de force that reimagines the brand’s mythical design language in a more wearable format. This latest evolution of the Astronomia collection fuses extravagant artistry with technical mastery, reaffirming Jacob & Co.’s position at the forefront of haute horlogerie.
Dragons have long been a signature motif for the brand, previously featured in monumental timepieces such as the Astronomia Dragon and the Mystery Tourbillon Twin Dragons. The Astronomia Solar Dragon distills this legacy into a 44mm case, available in 18k rose gold or black DLC-coated titanium, each with a solid caseback and 30-meter water resistance.
At the heart of the watch lies a hand-crafted Asian dragon sculpture, cast in three solid parts of 18k rose gold. Each piece is engraved, polished, and painted by hand over several weeks, with artisans sculpting intricate scales, claws, and flowing forms. Rose gold editions feature subtle colour accents, while titanium models are finished in full black DLC.
The dragon coils dramatically around the movement, hovering less than half a millimetre from the mechanical arms. This interplay of sculpture and horology is visible from every angle through the domed sapphire crystal and sapphire caseband. Beneath the dragon, a titanium baseplate displays a star map in gold lettering—blue for rose gold models, black for titanium. Rising above the scene is a Jacob-cut, 288-facet gemstone: yellow in the rose gold edition, and uniquely coloured in each titanium piece.
Powering the Astronomia Solar Dragon is the hand-wound calibre JCAM42, composed of 296 components and vertically arranged to maximise spatial drama. Unlike previous Astronomia movements, this calibre remains static to preserve the sculptural display. Three arms radiate from the centre: a one-minute flying tourbillon, a skeletonised off-centre time display, and a magnesium Earth globe that completes a full rotation every minute. The movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 48-hour power reserve.
Each timepiece is paired with an alligator leather strap and matching buckle. The Astronomia Solar Dragon in rose gold is limited to 36 pieces, while the black titanium edition is offered as four unique creations, each distinguished by its central gemstone.
